- Guam's Legislature held a public hearing on Bill 111-S, which would appropriate $19,885,394 from Section 30 tax revenues to fund a new electronic health record for Guam Memorial Hospital and a blue economy innovation center at the University of Guam. - Hospital IT leadership testified that the fragmented systems cause nurses to complete medication records on paper, prevent barcode scanning safeguards, and make report requests take days instead of minutes. - Infection control staff rely on manual chart reviews and separate tracking tools because the current system cannot query or consolidate laboratory and device data for CDC reporting.
- The board is actively evaluating database system vendors, having seen a demo from one new company and seeking a demo and quote from its current vendor's newer platform. - The executive director voiced concerns about the current vendor's customer service and communication issues, driving the search for a more user-friendly alternative. - Staff had previously obtained a quote from another company, but the board put that on hold and is now exploring multiple pathways. - The technology committee will review demos and recommend options to the full board, with a testing phase planned before rollout.
