Vancouver City Council Special Council Meeting
The council meeting addressed a motion to enact a bylaw submitting two questions to the voters in the upcoming municipal election: whether the city should strengthen laws to forbid open-air hard drug use in public spaces, and whether the city should formally request that the province convert an existing site into a secure medical facility for voluntary and involuntary care. Discussions centered on the humanitarian crisis related to drug use, the city's previous efforts to advocate for provincial assistance, concerns regarding public safety and the impact on families and children, and the rationale for using a plebiscite as a tool to engage voters and send a clear message to the provincial government.

Vancouver City Council Public Hearing
The council held a reconvened public hearing to discuss a proposal to modify conditions of approval for a mixed-use development project. The key agenda item involved replacing an in-kind cultural amenity space contribution with a five million dollar cash contribution, necessitated by challenges with financing requirements for the project's residential component. The discussion focused on the rationale for this change, the utilization of the cash contribution for arts and cultural purposes within the neighborhood, and the feedback received through public correspondence.
